Industrial production increased in five Brazilian states

The modest growth of 0.1% in industrial production from March to April reflects the expansion in industrial parks from five of 14 areas surveyed by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). The survey was released this Wednesday (Jun. 8).

According to data from the Monthly Industrial Survey, the positive result obtained in the industrial production, from March to April 2016, was reported in the states of Pernambuco (10.2%), São Paulo (2.6%), Minas Gerais (2.4%), Goiás (0.8%) and Rio de Janeiro (0.7%). They all rose above the national average of 0.1% from March to April.

On the other hand, among the states that reported a drop in production, Amazonas recorded the largest fall, reaching 13.5%, the most negative rate for the month and reduced the growth of 21.8% for the previous month. Negative rates were also obtained in Rio Grande do Sul (3.6%), Bahia (2.5%), Santa Catarina (2.2%), Ceará (2.1%), Espírito Santo (1.4%), the Northeast Region (1.3%), Pará (0.5%) and Paraná (0.5%).

When compared with April last year, the 7.2% drop in industrial production in April this year is generalized and reflects the reduction in the industrial park's production in 13 of the 15 areas surveyed by IBGE.
