Brazil's industrial production increased 1.1% in June compared to May, the fourth consecutive month-on-month increase, the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) reported Tuesday (Aug. 2).

Compared to June 2015, the output was 6% smaller. Declines were also seen in the cumulative figures for the year to date (-9.1%) and the past 12 months (-9.8%).
Between May and June 2016, production grew in 18 out of 24 industries. The highest increases were seen in leather goods and footwear (10.8%), automotive vehicles (8.4%) and apparel (9.8%).
Conversely, six industries saw their production decline in the period, notably beverages (-2.6%) and paper products (-2%).
