The Broad National Consumer Price Index (IPCA), the official inflation gauge, reached a cumulative 8.97% in the 12 months ending in August. This figure is above the upper target range set by the federal government (6.5%).
The cumulative twelve-month IPCA in July was 8.74%. The figures were disclosed today (Sept. 9) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
The monthly inflation rate in August was 0.44%, as against 0.52% in July 2016 and 0.22% in August 2015.
