Brazil's unemployed population reached 14 million in April, up 8.7% in the February-April compared to November-January, when the number had stood at 12.9 million.

Figures were released today (May 31) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) and can be found in the Continuous National Household Sample Survey (PNAD).

Compared to the same period in 2016, the amount of jobless Brazilians went up 23.1%, or 2.6 million people.

Employed

The employed population in the three-month period ending in April was 89.2 million people, a decline of 0.7% against the three-month period from November 2016 to January 2017 (89.9 million people).
