Brazil’s pre-salt oil output up 3.6% in February
Brazil’s pre-salt oil production added up to 1.826 million barrels of oil equivalent per day in February this year—up 3.6 percent from the previous year, and down 0.6 percent from January. The output stood at a daily 1.45 million barrels of oil a day and 59.8 million m³ of natural gas from 88 wells.
The figures were released Tuesday (Apr. 2) by the country’s National Agency for Oil, Natural Gas and Biofuels, ANP. Pre-salt oil production accounted for 57,4 percent of Brazil’s total output in February, which totaled 3.182 million barrels of oil equivalent per day—2.489 million barrels per day and a daily 110 million m² of natural gas.
Oil fields
The field with the highest production of oil and natural gas in Brazil in February was the Lula field, in the Santos basin, with an average of 885 thousand barrels of oil a day and daily 37.5 million m³ of natural day. Offshore fields produced 95.7 percent of oil and 82 percent of natural gas from 7,250 wells, of which 695 are offshore, 6,555 are on land.
The fields operated by Petrobras produced 94 percent of oil and natural gas. Land fields considered, the Estreito field, located in the Potiguar basin, had the highest number of producing wells: 1,125. Marlim Sul, in the Campos basin, was the offshore field with the largest amount of producing fields, 87.
Natural gas
The use of natural gas in Brazil in February this year was reported at 95.4 percent of the total output, with 56.2 million m³ being made available for the market every day. Burned gas totaled 5.1 million m³ a day—down 9.4 percent from the previous month and up 42.1 percent compared to February 2018.
