Guedes believes Brazil pension reform will be approved

In a statement made today (May 28) in Brasília, Brazil’s Economy Minister Paulo Guedes said he is confident in the approval of the overhaul in the country’s pension system, a topic currently under debate in the Parliament. The marches staged Sunday (26) in several cities across the country in support for the government are proof that the people want change, he said.

“We are confident that Congress will approve [the Pension] reform. I think the demonstrations confirm the idea that the people want changes,” he said after arriving at the Economy Ministry building after a breakfast at the Alvorada presidential residence with President Jair Bolsonaro, lower house speaker Rodrigo Maia, Senate head David Alcolumbre, and Supreme Court Chief Head Dias Toffoli.

Guedes described the meeting as “excellent, a great environment,” with no antagonism among the branches. “They’re all seeking to improve the country,” he declared.
