Brazil’s Economy Minister Paulo Guedes stated today (Mar. 25) that only the mass vaccination of Brazilians, coupled with a “more intelligent and selective” isolation measures, can ensure a solid resumption of the economy.
In line with the words of the country’s new Health Minister Marcelo Queiroga yesterday (Mar. 24), Guedes said that, if the country vaccinates 1 million people a day, a new landscape would arise in two months.
“If we can do it, it is possible that, in 60 days, we have a new, completely different horizon before us: a country that can resume its growth—a growth that was already coming back,” he argued.
“So now we implement a slowdown in contagion with slightly more intelligent, more selective, isolation, and speed up vaccination, and, in 60 days, we can be in a totally different scenario,” Guedes declared during a public hearing of the Temporary COVID-19 Commission, at the Senate.
On the delayed vaccination mentioned by bank owners in a letter this week, Guedes said that Brazil will accelerate the immunization of the people. “If we didn’t accelerate earlier, this may have been a mistake, but that is another field, so I’m not going to make comments; but we’re in agreement with the economists,” he pointed out.
