The balance of extended credit to the non-financial sector reached R$ 14.7 trillion in November. The figure, released this Tuesday (27), in Brasília, by the Central Bank (BC), represents a 1.3% increase in comparison to October (R$ 14.6 trillion) and corresponds to 150% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

Credit extended to the non-financial sector includes, in addition to credit operations in the National Financial System (SFN) - loans and financing granted by banks and other financial institutions -, credit operations by other resident institutional sectors, public and private debt securities, and credit granted by non-residents (foreign debt).

The monthly update of the statistics indicates the main sources of funds used to finance the public and private non-financial sectors of the Brazilian economy, allowing the analysis of the level and profile of government, corporate, and household indebtedness.

According to the Brazilian Central Bank, the increase in the balance in November was the result of operations with public debt securities (up 1.4%), loans from the National Financial System (1.1%), and foreign debt (1.9%, in part because of the 0.7% depreciation in the exchange rate in the month).

Expanded credit to families reached R$ 3.4 trillion - a monthly increase of 1.4% and 17.9% in 12 months. Expanded credit to companies rose 0.7% to R$ 5.1 trillion (52.1% of GDP), influenced mainly by the 1.9% increase in foreign debt loans.
