Only two of the 27 Brazilian states recorded a decline in the unemployment rate in the third quarter of 2025 compared to the previous quarter. In Rio de Janeiro, the rate fell from 8.1 to 7.5 percent, whereas in Tocantins, it went from 5.3 to 3.8 percent. In the other states, unemployment remained stable.

The data were released by the statistics bureau IBGE. The unemployment rate for the period stood at 5.6 percent, the lowest in the history of the survey, which began in 2012.

According to research analyst William Kratochwill, as is always the case, the third quarter is a period of adjustment for the labor market to meet the expectations of economic agents for the last quarter of the year.

The figures also show that, from July to September, unemployment for women reached 6.9 percent, higher than that for men, at 4.5 percent, compared to the previous quarter.
