Industrial production ends two-month decline, rises 0.2% in July
Brazilian industrial production grew 0.2 percent from June to July, ending two consecutive months of decline. As a result, the sector has accumulated a 1.1 percent increase so far in 2026 and a 0.6 percent expansion over the past 12 months.
Compared to July 2025, the country’s industrial output fell by 0.5 percent. The quarterly moving average, which helps identify the sector’s recent trajectory, contracted by 0.8 percent.
The data are part of the monthly industrial survey, released Wednesday (Aug. 2) by the statistics bureau IBGE.
According to the data, the cumulative 12-month increase (0.6%) represents a “slight slowdown” compared to the cumulative figure through June 2026 (0.7%).
Trends
The survey reveals that three of the four major economic categories showed growth from June to July:
- durable consumer goods – 3.2%;
- capital goods – 2.4%;
- semi-durable and non-durable consumer goods – 0.5%;
- intermediate goods – -0.2%.
Diffusion index
The diffusion index showed that 69.6 percent of the 789 products surveyed posted positive performance from June to July. This is the second-highest figure of the year, second only to March (80.6%).
