Pelé discharged after hospitalization due to colon tumor treatment

Former footballer Pelé - Edson Arantes do Nascimento, spent two days (Jan. 19 and 20) at Albert Einstein Hospital, in São Paulo, to continue treatment of a colon tumor, that had been removed on September 4, last year. According to the medical bulletin released by the institution, the clinical conditions of the King of Football are stable, and he has been discharged.

Pelé was hospitalized for almost a month, between August 31 and September 30, 2021, and has undergone surgery to remove the tumor four days after being admitted to the hospital. He spent much of the time in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). On December 8, the former player returned to Albert Einstein for the last chemotherapy sessions of the year. He was released on December 23, to spend Christmas with the family.

Tribute

On social media, Pelé paid tribute to samba singer Elza Soares, who died on Thursday (Jan. 20), aged 91. Elza was a legend of the Brazilian music, a “historical, genuine, unique and incomparable" person, reads the statement. He also mentioned that the singer died exactly 39 years to the day after the death of her husband – the legendary footballer Mané Garrincha, world champion together with the King of Football in 1958 and 1962.
