Brazil’s Corinthians is to face the Colombians from Deportivo Cali on Wednesday (Apr. 13) at the Neo Química arena in São Paulo, at 9 pm Brasília time.

The Brazilian team lost against Always Ready (Bolivia) 2–0 a week ago. The stumble against the Bolivians in the first round left scars. Members of an organized group of Corinthians supporters went to the club’s training center to make complaints. Some players were threatened, like goalkeeper Cássio, who went as far as to file a police report on the case, now brought under investigation by São Paulo’s Police Department for Repression to Sports Intolerance Offenses.

The expected line-up should include: Cássio; Fagner, João Victor, Gil (Raul Gustavo), and Fábio Santos (Lucas Piton); Du Queiroz, Paulinho, Maycon, and Renato Augusto; Willian and Junior Moraes (Róger Guedes).

Deportivo

Deportivo Cali had a more positive start than Corinthians in the Libertadores Cup, as they had to tackle the feared Boca Juniors (Argentina) in their opening match, and won 2–0 in Cali city. The Colombians ended the first round atop group E, with three points, just like Always Ready. However, the team occupies only the 19th and penultimate place in the national championship.

The Colombian team is expected to line up with Guilherme de Amores; Aldair Gutiérrez, Guillermo Burdisso, Jorge Marsiglia, and Christian Mafla; Kevin Velasco, Yimmi Congo, Edgard Camargo, and Jhon Vásquez; Téo Gutierrez and Ángelo Rodríguez.

Results

Also in the Libertadores Cup, Brazil’s Palmeiras thrashed Bolivia’s Independiente Petrolero 8–1 Tuesday night at the Allianz Parque, and remains at the top of group A with six points.

On the same night, supported by over 42 thousand fans, Flamengo, Brazil, defeated Talleres, Argentina, 3–1 at Rio’s Maracanã stadium, and maintains its lead in the cup’s group H.
