Brazil had a golden day at the World Paralympic Judo Championships held in Baku (Azerbaijan). Alana Maldonado and Wilians Araújo climbed to the top of the podium on Wednesday (Nov. 9), a day in which the Brazilians also secured one silver and five bronze medals.

The highlight of the day was Alana Maldonado. She secured her second championship - she had won a gold medal in the 2018 edition held in Portugal - in the up to 70 kg category for J2 athletes (low vision), after defeating Turkey's Raziye Ulucam in the final.

Another athlete from Brazil who received a gold medal was Wilians Araújo. He won with an unbeatable ippon Azerbaijani Ilham Zakiyev, who is the owner of four Paralympic medals (two golds and two bronzes).

Besides the two golds, Brazil guaranteed a silver with Erika Zoaga, and five bronzes with Arthur Silva, Antônio Tenório, Brenda Freitas, Meg Emmerich, and Rebeca Silva. Considering the medals won by Thiego Marques and Rosi Andrade on the first day of the competition, this makes ten medals in the best Brazilian performance in the history of the tournament.
