Brazil wins six medals at Paralympic Athletics World Championships
The second day of competition at the Paralympic Athletics World Championships in New Delhi, India, was another positive one for Brazil. On Sunday (Sep. 28), the country claimed six more podium finishes, highlighted by Ricardo Mendonça’s gold medal in the 100m T37 class for athletes with cerebral palsy.

With these results, the country ended the day at the top of the overall standings with 10 medals: three gold, five silver, and two bronze.
Ricardo Mendonça claimed his third world championship title with a time of 11.16 seconds. Fellow Brazilian Christian Gabriel ran 11.23 seconds to take silver.
Brazil's other medals on Sunday were:
- Rayane Soares – silver in the 100m T13 (visual impairment)
- João Matos Cunha – silver in the 400m T72 (Paralympic class)
- Kesley Teodoro – bronze in the 100m T12 (visual impairment)
- Edileusa dos Santos – bronze in the 400m T72 (Paralympic class)
Athlete Edileusa dos Santos initially finished fourth but moved up to claim bronze after Spain’s Judith Vila was disqualified for stepping into the adjacent lane.
