World Cup: Lucas Paquetá injured, no timeline for return to the field

The midfielder suffered a left thigh injury in the victory over Japan

The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) announced on Tuesday (Jun. 30) that Lucas Paquetá has suffered a muscle injury to his left hamstring. The midfielder was injured in the first half of the 2–1 victory over Japan in Houston, US, last Monday (29), which sent Brazil to the World Cup Round of 16.

No return date has been announced by the CBF. The statement simply notes that the midfielder “will undergo an intensive treatment protocol, supervised by the Brazilian national team’s medical staff, with a view to his recovery and return to action as soon as possible.”

Brazil return to the field on Sunday (5) in New Jersey, US, for the Round of 16 to face Norway, which defeated the Ivory Coast national team on Tuesday (30).

Coach Carlo Ancelotti, following the win over Japan, admitted that he may once again start Endrick in the midfield position. Another option is, of course, Neymar.
