Judge convicts 4 executives of OAS contractor

Federal judge Sergio Moro has convicted on Wednesday (Aug. 5) four executives of the OAS contractor investigated in Operation Car Wash. José Adelmário Filho, Agenor Franklin Medeiros, Mateus Coutinho and José Ricardo Breguirolli were convicted for the crime of money laundering.
The sentence also affects the former Petrobras Downstream director, Paulo Roberto Costa, and the currency dealer Alberto Youssef, convicted for accepting bribes. As both agreed to the bargain deal, the penalties were ease. The currency dealer should serve 16 years in prison, but he will be arrested under closed regime for three years. Costa serves house arrest due to information provided to the investigators of Operation Car Wash.
In the sentence, Moro stated that the crimes of money laundering came from crimes of cartel formation and bids adjustment in at least three contracts between the OAS and Petrobras, for the construction of Getúlio Vargas refinery in Paraná and Abreu e Lima refinery in Pernambuco. According to the judge, particularly in the OAS case, there is clear proof that the link between the company and the currency dealer Alberto Youssef lasted until he was imprisoned. Considering the OAS operations with Youssef from December 2013, February and March 2014, “they follow the same previous modus operandi, illicit amounts of cash delivered to third parties, including politicians, using Alberto Youssef money laundering office,” argued the judge.
When contacted by Agência Brasil, the OAS stated that they were not notified of the sentence and that will make any announcement after "thorough knowledge of the content" of the decision.
