Brazil will see the introduction of 98 new international flight frequencies over the coming six months, according to a study by the Brazilian Tourism Institute (Embratur), based on data from the National Agency of Civil Aviation (Anac) and other firms in the sector.

The new flights will depart from 14 countries: Israel, South Africa, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, France, the UK, Argentina, Bolivia, Ecuador, Chile, Paraguay, and the US. New offers are expected to reach 54, and additional frequencies 44. In all, weekly frequencies will add up to 144 from October this year to April 2019, in addition to the ones already in operation between international destinations and Brazil.

Among the novelties is a flight between São Paulo and Tel Aviv, Israel, starting in September, to be operated by Latam three times a week. Air Europa will introduce a flight between the city of Fortaleza, Ceará state, and Madrid, in Spain, in April 2019, to take place twice a week.

Also expected are flights connecting seven Brazilian weeks to Buenos Aires, in Argentina, operated by Gol, Latam, Andes, and Azul.

Embratur President Teté Bezerra said that the increase in Brazil’s  connectivity is also part of the agenda between the agency and companies in the sector.

“Figures show that the promotion strategy adopted by the Brazilian Tourism Institute, with a focus on countries seen as priority, may be among the decisive factors leading to the growth of Brazilian tourism. The expansion of international flights is one of the main topics in Embratur’s agenda and that of domestic partners,” Bezerra argued.

Increase in offer

The study shows that the monthly flight offer increased 2,30 percent this month from the same period last year (5,138 to 5,256 monthly frequencies). A growth of 5,53 percent in the number of seats was also reported—from 1,154,696 to 1,218,526.

Last year, weekly flights from other continents to Brazil totaled 1,160. This figure went up to 1,187 according to figures for October.

Latin America is still the region with the highest number of trips to Brazil. Today, 659 direct weekly frequencies have 17 Brazilian cities as their destinations. Second comes Europe, with 245 weekly flights to 12 destinations.

The US and Canada come next, with a total of 208 weekly flights connecting Brazil to 14 cities. With Africa, 42 weekly flights are operated, connecting Brazil to six different destinations. Last comes Asia, with flights headed for four Brazilian cities, with 33 weekly frequencies.
