Rio de Janeiro authorities stated Monday (Apr. 15) it is no longer in “stage of crisis,” declared nearly a week before. The city had reached this level—the most severe of three, as per standards set by the Civil Defense—at 8:55 pm last Monday (8) because of the heavy rains on that day.
The storm, which caused floods and landslides in several areas last week, left ten killed, in addition to wrecked vehicles, fallen trees, flooded streets, and houses damaged.
Due to the damages caused by the rains, Mayor Marcelo Crivella declared “public calamity.”
Rio is currently at “stage of attention”—the intermediate level. Nonetheless, the city may still be affected by heavy rains as of Monday evening.
