From November 21 to 24, Brasília will host an event expected to mobilize young people from the Federal District and beyond. With a focus on volunteer work, Together should draw approximately 10 thousand people to foster the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations (UN) for the 2030 Agenda.

Volunteers will conduct 32 social plans bearing UN’s seal, with the support of the local government and the administrative organization of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in a joint initiative to benefit the local community.

The efforts are in line with the SDGs, which include environmental protection, social and gender equality, and the fight against hunger and poverty.

Education

A large number of volunteers will work at 20 public schools of the Federal District with talks about drugs, bullying, violence, depression, and more. Other initiatives will be carried out in public spaces, like blood donation, health fairs, plans to fight violence against women, cosmetics, musical activities, and historical exhibits.

In addition to social actions, participants will have a chance to become acquainted with and participate in volunteer initiatives and join NGOs and mission agencies. “We want to call the attention of young people to the fact that they can make a great difference in society,” said event organizer and church leader Alijofran Brandão.

A number of long- and short-term volunteer work opportunities will be unveiled, plus lectures delivered by people with a vast experience in the field.

Sensory experiences

Together will also provide an environment for participants to have unique, sensory experiences. Each of the world’s continents will be represented through replicas, colors, sounds, performances, and even weather conditions. The exhibit will be interactive, so that people may have fun while learning through games and videos.

On Sunday—the last day of the event—a beneficent race dubbed Together Run will be held in downtown Brasília. Adults will run five kilometers, whereas children will have their own race. The goal is to encourage sports as a means to prevent diseases caused by a sedentary lifestyle and to promote physical and mental wellness.
