The Federal Police (PF) is serving today (30) nine search and seizure warrants in Roraima against suspected members of a criminal organization specialized in promoting illegal migration in Brazil. Operation Open Border warrants were issued by the 4th Federal Criminal Court in Roraima.

The agents are serving seven warrants in Boa Vista and two in Bonfim, a border town that is linked to Guyana through an international bridge.

The investigation began after the arrest in flagrante delicto of two people who entered Brazil illegally with 21 foreigners in a van. The PF estimates that the group would have helped hundreds of immigrants to cross the border between the two countries, by charging high amounts, in dollars.

Also according to the PF, the group works at dawn and also has the participation of boatmen, who bypass inspection by crossing the Tacutu River, which separates the cities of Bonfim and Lethem (in Guyana).

In addition to crossing the border, the group maintains a structure that guarantees the travel of immigrants to the city of Manaus. Hotels and inns, used in the scheme, accommodated travelers without requiring any documentation.
