Samba de terreiro opens cultural gathering season in Rio de Janeiro

Each event will present a musical genre having Rio as a theme

Rio de Janeiro launched on Thursday (Jun. 30) the Rio Cultural Gathering Season – Saraus Cariocas. Throughout the year, on the last Thursdays of each month at 12:30 pm, famous names of Brazilian music will meet in the auditorium of the General Archive of the City of Rio de Janeiro to play, sing and have an informal chat with the public.

Each meeting will have as its theme a musical genre linked to the city. The season was opened by musicians Cláudio Jorge and Augusto Martins who played samba de terreiro.

Other musical genres from Rio de Janeiro, such as jongo, choro, and gafieira, will be the themes of the next events, throughout this second semester. Each presentation lasts 60 minutes. Admission is free, subject to the capacity of the auditorium of 126 seats. The soirees will be recorded and will be available on the YouTube channel of the General Archive of the City.
