Amazônia Fund Alliance brings indigenous cause to Cannes
On May 21 and 22, the Amazon Fund and the Unesco National Federation of Associations, Centers, and Clubs program will launch the Amazônia Fund Alliance at the Cannes Film Festival in France. The festival is one of the main events in world cinema.
The alliance is an initiative of French entertainment entrepreneurs Jean-Charles Jougla and Thierry Klemeniuk.
The fund aims to finance projects by non-profit organizations for the generation of a stable income for the indigenous people living in the Amazon region. The Amazônia Fund Alliance will also support reforestation projects, the preservation of rivers and springs, and the reduction of carbon emissions. It will bring together entrepreneurs, foundations, international brands, and globally renowned artists.
The campaign aims to raise $5 million in its first year through a series of events and initiatives. These include dinners, auctions, concerts, and social gatherings held in Cannes, Brazil, and other locations worldwide. Furthermore, a charity gala ball is scheduled for the Venice Film Festival in Italy, set to take place in September.
Brazil in Cannes
Brazilian cinema will make a notable presence at the 76th Cannes Festival, showcasing five feature films and one short film in the main screenings. Brazilian director Karim Aïnouz will compete in the main category for his direction in the UK film "Firebrand."
In addition to the presence of Brazilian film representatives, Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with the Guimarães Rosa Institute and the Brazilian Embassy in Paris, will bring to the festival members from the +Mulheres Lideranças do Audiovisual Brasileiro group and the Nicho 54 Institute, which works towards supporting the careers of black professionals in the audiovisual field in Brazil.
