in Tunisia, a suicide attack on a bus carrying presidential guards left at least 12 dead.
The Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the Brazilian government “strongly” condemns the recent terrorist attacks in Egypt and Tunisia, and extended its condolences to the victims' families. The actions have killed at least seven people in Egypt, and, in Tunisia, a suicide attack on a bus carrying presidential guards left at least 12 dead.
“As we extend our sympathy to the victims' families, the people and the government of Egypt, we reaffirm Brazil's strongest repudiation of all terrorist action committed under any pretext,” the statement read.
On Tuesday (Nov. 24), the ministry also issued a statement saying that Brazil welcomed the adoption of an international resolution by the UN Security Council calling on countries to fight Islamic State (IS). The resolution aims to end terrorist groups' control of Syria's and Iraq's territories, prevent terrorist action, and eliminate their funding sources.
The note went on to state the Brazilian government was “satisfied” with the “unanimous approval” of the resolution. According to the approved document, all UN nations must take “the necessary steps in accordance with international law to combat Islamic State, as it calls itself, an unprecedented threat to international peace and security.”
The document also denounced “systematic” human rights violations by the IS, saying “those responsible must be held accountable” for their actions.
