The Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported on Wednesday (Jan. 26) that Brazil’s government has been monitoring the situation in Burkina Faso with concern. Last Monday (Jan. 24), the country's army announced that it had overthrown President Roch Kabore, suspended the Constitution, dissolved the government and the National Assembly, and closed the borders.

In a note, the ministry highlighted that the Brazilian government calls on the country's political forces for a broad, peaceful, and democratic dialogue, "aiming a rapid restoration of the constitutional order."

"It also calls for the physical integrity of President Roch Marc Christian Kaboré and the safety of all Burkinabés to be guaranteed," the statement reads.
