The Ministry of Foreign Affairs published a note on Tuesday (Jul. 15) in which the Brazilian government once again “deplores and rejects” statements made by the US State Department and its embassy in Brasília.

The text describes the remarks made on social networks as another “undue and unacceptable” intrusion into matters that fall under the responsibility of the Brazilian Judiciary.

“Such comments are inconsistent with the 200-year relationship of respect and friendship between the two countries,” said the ministry, led by Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira (photo).

On Monday (14), the US State Department published a declaration on the social network X, claiming that President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes have made attacks on former President Jair Bolsonaro that are “a disgrace and fall far below the dignity of Brazil’s democratic traditions.”

Also on Monday, the Attorney General’s Office asked the Supreme Court to convict former President Jair Bolsonaro and seven other defendants from nucleus 1 of the coup plot.

The statement was sent this Monday to Justice Alexandre de Moraes and is part of the closing arguments—the final phase before the trial of the accused, which is expected to take place in September this year.
