China condemns tariff on Brazil, accuses US of intimidation
China’s Foreign Ministry on Friday (Jul. 11) criticized the 50-percent import tariff on Brazilian products announced this week by US President Donald Trump.

“Sovereign equality and non-interference in internal affairs are major principles of the United Nations Charter and basic norms in international relations,” ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said when asked by a reporter what she thought of the 50-percent tariff on Brazilian products announced by President Trump.
“Tariffs should not be a tool of coercion, intimidation, or interference,” she concluded saying.
Earlier this week, when President Trump began sending letters to trading partners threatening to raise tariffs, Mao Ning had already criticized US protectionism.
“China’s position on tariffs is consistent and clear. There are no winners in a trade or tariff war. Protectionism harms everyone’s interests,” she argued.
