Brazil celebrates agreement ending conflict in Gaza Strip
On Thursday (Oct. 9), Brazil celebrated the announcement of an agreement between Israel and Hamas for a new ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, in the State of Palestine. In a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Brazilian government highlighted the humanitarian dimension of the agreement and encouraged the parties to comply with all its terms.

With Hamas confirming the end of the war, marking the beginning of a permanent ceasefire, the Brazilian government recognized the important role played by the United States and emphasized the contributions of the other mediating countries: Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey.
“Brazil urges the parties to comply with all terms of the agreement and to engage in good-faith negotiations to ensure the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, the start of the urgent process of reconstruction of the Strip under Palestinian coordination and supervision, and the restoration of the political and geographical unity of Palestine under its legitimate government, in accordance with the inalienable right of self-determination of the Palestinian people,” said the statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to the ministry, if effectively implemented, the agreement should halt Israeli attacks on Gaza, which have caused more than 67,000 deaths, as well as the forced displacement of nearly two million residents and unprecedented devastation.
“It should also guarantee the release of all remaining hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, ensure the unimpeded entry of humanitarian aid, and facilitate the withdrawal of Israeli troops to the line agreed upon by the parties, in addition to creating the conditions for the immediate reconstruction of Gaza with the support of the international community,” the statement read.
The ministry highlights that a just, stable, and lasting peace in the Middle East requires the implementation of the two-state solution: “With an independent and viable State of Palestine, living side by side with Israel in peace and security, within the 1967 borders, including the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, with East Jerusalem as its capital.”
