Earthquake in Colombia: Lula expresses solidarity
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva expressed his sorrow over the 7.4-magnitude earthquake that struck Colombia on Monday (Aug. 10). In a social media post, he said he had received the news with concern. The quake’s epicenter was in the department of Chocó.
“On behalf of the Brazilian people, I express my solidarity with the Colombian people, especially the families of the victims and all those affected by the tremors. Brazil remains at Colombia’s disposal to provide the necessary support,” he wrote.
In a separate statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that Brazil is closely monitoring search and rescue efforts and assistance provided to populations affected by the earthquake and is willing to collaborate, to the best of its ability, with Colombian authorities in emergency response efforts.
