An event expected to draw some 6 thousand people in Brasília by the weekend turned into a sort of act of reparation for President Dilma Rousseff even before she arrived at the venue.
Speakers were delivering speeches against the impeachment case—approved by the lower house last week and submitted to a special committee in the Senate—when chants of “There will be no coup, there will be fight,” “Down with Cunha,” and “Olê olê olê olá, Dilma, Dilma!” were sung by those present. When the president arrived, she was greeted by a crowd with slogans like “Dilma warrior of the Brazilian nation,” and “In my country I trust, for it is ruled by a woman.”
The event marked the end of four conferences on topics related to children and adolescents, the elderly, the disabled, and LGBT people. The gathering also served as the opening for 12th National Human Rights Conference, which should welcome some 6 thousand delegates from all over the globe, starting on Wednesday (27).
