In his first interview to Empresa Brasil de Comunicação (EBC) news outlets, President Michel Temer described the allegations submitted to Congress by the Office of the Prosecutor-General as “despicable.” They request an inquiry with the Supreme Court targeting the president.

“The two charges [lodged in 2017] were despicable. So much so that the lower house was quick to reject them; not reject them, but prevent them from advancing. This alleged third accusation is a campaign by the opposition,” he said.

There has been an attempt to weaken the government, Temer argued. “If we managed to resist this far, we can resist some four or five months more,” he stated.

Regarding a possible impeachment case, Temer maintains that it should be initiated with the consideration of an offense believed to have been committed by the president regardless of how much time they have before their tenure is over.

“If a president has committed an indisputable offense, then that’s enough for them not to remain in office for a month longer,” he said.
