Three of four Brazilians say Bolsonaro is on right track

The survey also found 64% believe his government will be great or good

A survey released today (Dec. 13) by pollster CNI-Ibope shows that 75 percent of Brazilians say President-Elect Jair Bolsonaro and his staff are on the right track regarding the decisions made so far. Fourteen percent believe Bolsonaro in on the wrong track, and 11 do not know or did not answer.

Of the Brazilians interviewed, 64 percent expect Bolsonaro’s administration to be great or good.

The figures indicate that, the higher the family’s income, the larger the percentage of people who believe the president-elect is on the right path. The rate stands at 70 percent among those with a family income of up to one minimum wage a month ($246), compared to 82 percent among those with a family income surpassing five times as much.

Priorities

To bolster health care services and increase employment should be the government’s priorities in 2019 according to 41 and 40 percent of the respondents respectively. Next come efforts against corruption, violence, and crime, with 36 percent. Raising the quality of education is mentioned by 33 percent.

A better life

The study found that two of every three Brazilians believe that the country’s economic landscape will be better in 2019, while a similar portion expects their own life will improve or improve considerably next year.

Approximately four of every ten Brazilians believe that public security should be among the main issues to be tackled in the first year of Bolsonaro’s tenure, followed by corruption (37 percent) and unemployment (36 percent).

Watchful eyes

Most of the Brazilians interviewed approve of the appointments made in Bolsonaro’s cabinet, as well as the measures unveiled by his team.

Of the interviewees, 80 percent said they are at least a little informed about the ministers and allies to be named. Of these, 55 percent refer to the choices as adequate or very adequate.

Slightly more than eight of every ten say they are to some degree informed about the proposals brought forth by the president-elect. Of this amount, 75 percent showed general approval of his plans. The percentage of support surges according to the how acquainted the respondent said he is with the new administration.

The survey was conducted from November 29 to December 2, and heard 2 thousand voters across 127 municipalities. The margin of error was estimated at two percentage points, and the confidence level stands at 95 percent.
