Brazil’s Superior Electoral Court started discussing a new system of rules to govern electoral legislation, political parties, candidates, and voters in the coming elections.

The goal, court authorities said, is to make room for scholars, jurists, and society at large to spot normative conflicts, contradictions, and incoherence in current norms.

In an event held Monday and Tuesday (May 27, 28), members of society will be allowed to contribute to the discussion at the Superior Electoral Court in Brasília.

Among the topics to be debated include “criteria for how candidates are presented, rules on the access to the press, measures for funding control and the access to the Party Fund, rules for disclosing opinion polls, and propaganda.” A report will be put together during the meeting with the new system proposed.
