President Jair Bolsonaro during his Thursday (Mar. 4) live broadcast on social media confirmed he will fly to Argentina on March 26. He is to take part in the celebrations for the 30 years since the foundation of Mercosur, the bloc made up of Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay.

“I’ll be in Buenos Aires, our dear Argentina, on March 26, as scheduled. We’ll be there to celebrate the 30 years since Mercosur was created. We all know that COVID-19 has caused economic difficulties across the world, and we hope that Argentina is successful in its talks with the [International Monetary Fund], as Argentina’s financial situation is difficult. The economic success of countries here in South America, among them Argentina, is desired by all of us in South America. Brazil is among the most interested, of course,” he stated.

Bolsonaro also mentioned the meeting he is set to have with his Argentinian counterpart Alberto Fernández. “It’s the first time we’ll be talking to the president of Argentina. Of course, we both want to talk in private somewhere—and publicly we’ll discuss economic issues facing our countries,” he said.

Vaccines

In the broadcast, the Brazilian president advocated the measures of the federal government in acquiring the vaccines. The country should expand the number of available doses by 20 million this month, and by 40 million in April, he said.

A total of 400 million doses are to be received by the country, according to the president. Another 178 million are being discussed.
