The Brazilian Democratic Movement Party (MDB) confirmed, with 262 votes in favor and 9 against, the name of senator Simone Tebet as a candidate for the presidential race in a virtual convention held this Wednesday (Jul. 27). The name of the vice presidential candidate has not yet been defined. The event was broadcast over the internet, and voting took place through a virtual platform. Simone Tebet has the support of the PSDB-Cidadania party federation, whose presidents Bruno Araújo and Roberto Freire attended the convention. In her speech, Tebet said she is optimistic.

Tebet declared that only the so-called democratic center has the capacity to pacify Brazil, to unite Brazil, so that the country regains security, and stability, and starts to grow again, generating employment and income for the population.

After the convention, in a press conference, she said she has received the most arduous and important mission of her life. "I am a presidential candidate and as such, I put my life in favor of Brazil, in favor of democracy, and the Brazilian people. We are going to transform Brazil with love and courage," Simone Tebet said.

The name of the vice presidential candidate must be defined by August 5, the deadline established by the electoral calendar. Senator Tasso Jereissati (PSDB-CE) is one of the favorites. According to him, the definition of a name depends on a series of internal political negotiations.
