Brazil´s Superior Electoral Court (TSE) has received 12 presidential candidacy applications for the October elections. The deadline for registration ended on Monday (Aug. 15).

After the candidates are approved at the party conventions, the request for the registration of candidates at the Electoral Justice is a formality to verify if they have any legal restrictions to running in the election.

Once the requests are received, the applications will be published by the court. After this, a five-day period will be opened for opposing candidates and parties, and the Electoral Prosecutor´s Office (MPE) to contest the applications.

The next step will be the trial of the registration by the minister who has been raffled to report on the case, which should be judged by September 12.
