Lula congratulates Ecuador’s re-elected president

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on Monday (Apr. 14) issued a statement recognizing the re-election of Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa, who secured a second term over the weekend.
“I salute the Ecuadorian people and President Daniel Noboa on his re-election in the election held on Sunday, April 13. Brazil will continue to work with Ecuador in defense of multilateralism, South American integration, and the sustainable development of the Amazon,” wrote Lula in an official statement published on his social media.
The official results gave the current president, from the right-wing National Democratic Action party, 55.6 percent of the valid votes, compared to 44.3 percent for the left-wing candidate Luisa González. The margin exceeded one million votes in favor of the sitting president.
However, Luisa González is contesting the results and has filed a formal complaint alleging fraud.
