Clinical exams indicated that former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro has experienced improved kidney function in recent hours. However, due to elevated inflammatory markers in his blood, doctors have decided to increase the antibiotic dosage.

Jair Bolsonaro has been hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a private hospital in Brasília since the morning of last Friday (Mar. 13), where he is being treated for bilateral bacterial Bronchopneumonia, likely caused by aspiration.

According to the medical bulletin released on Sunday (March 15), his clinical condition is stable, but there is still no prediction of when he will be able to leave the ICU. In addition to expanding antibiotic coverage, the medical team has already intensified respiratory and motor physiotherapy.

He is being held at the Papuda Penitentiary Complex, serving a 27-year and 3-month sentence for attempted coup d’état and other related crimes.

Last Friday, he fell ill and was taken to the hospital with a high fever, low oxygen saturation, sweating and chills.
