Brazil has now 22.1 thousand infected by coronavirus

The current death toll stands at 1.2 thousand

Brazil’s Health Ministry on Sunday (Apr. 12) disclosed the latest figures on the new coronavirus. Infected people add up to 22,169, up 1,332 cases from the report published Saturday (11). The number of deaths reached 1,223, up 99 in 24 hours. The mortality rate of the disease has been on the rise in Brazil, and has reached 5.5 percent.

The sharpest surge in deaths from one day to another was seen on April 9, which registered 141 new deaths. As for the notified cases, the peak was on April 8, with 2,210 cases were reported.

The state of São Paulo still has the highest number of both cases (8,755) and deaths (588). Rio de Janeiro still comes second with the most cases of contamination—2,855 cases and 170 deaths. In the North, Amazonas has most cases—1,206, and 62 deaths.

Regions

In the Northeast, Ceará stands out, with 1,676 cases and 74 deaths. In the Central-West, the Federal District has the largest amount of cases, way ahead of the others, with 614 cases and 14 deaths. In the three states of the South, Santa Catarina ranks first, with 768, and Rio Grande do Sul comes last, with 653. Paraná has the most deaths in the region—30, and 738 cases.
