Brazil sees new record in COVID-19 deaths in single day: 881
In all, 12.4 thousand were killed since the pandemic was confirmed

Brazil reported 881 new deaths from COVID-19 in 24 hours, bringing the total to 12.4 thousand on Tuesday (May 12), up 7.6 percent from the previous day’s 11,519.
The new confirmed cases amount to 9,258, adding up to 177,589, up 5.4 percent from Monday (11), when the number of infected people stood at 168,331.
Of the total of confirmed cases, 92,693 (52.1%) are being monitored, and 72,597 (40.9%) were recovered. There are also 2,050 obits under investigation.
São Paulo is still the epicenter of the disease, with the highest number of deaths (3,949), followed by Rio de Janeiro (1,928), Ceará (1,280), Pernambuco (1,157), and Amazonas (1,098).
