COVID-19: Brazil has 1.496 million cases, 61.8 thousand deaths

Thus far, 852 thousand people have recovered from the disease

Brazil’s total COVID-19 case tally since the beginning of the pandemic stands at 1,496,858, with the death toll at 61,884, as per the latest figures from the Ministry of Health, released Thursday (Jul. 2). In 24 hours, 1,252 obits and 48,195 confirmed cases were added to the statistics.

Of the total of people infected up to now, 852,816 recovered from the disease, and 582, 158 patients are still being observed. There are also 3,931 deaths under investigation.

The lethality rate of COVID-19 (number of deaths divided by the total amount of cases) was reported at 4.1 percent, whereas mortality (obits in every 100 thousand people) was 29.4. The incidence (amount of cases divided by the population) is 712.3.

São Paulo (15,351), Rio de Janeiro (10,332), Ceará (6.284), Pará (5.004), and Pernambuco (4,968) are among the 27 Brazilians states with the highest number of fatal cases. Those with the lowest number of deaths are Mato Grosso do Sul (91), Tocantins (209), Roraima (354), Santa Catarina (362), and Acre (378).
