Brazil’s COVID-19 case tally surpasses 4 mi

Approximately 80 percent of the infected have recovered

Brazil has reached slightly more than 4 million cases of COVID-19, as per the report released Thursday (Sep. 3) by the Health Ministry. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 4,041,538 people have been infected with the novel coronavirus. In 24 hours, state health secretariats added 43,733 new patients diagnosed with the disease to the statistics.

Also according to the update, the pandemic is linked to 124,614 deaths. A total of 834 new deaths from the disease were registered in 24 hours. Of the 27 Brazilian states, São Paulo has the highest case count (837,978) and death toll (30,905).

Also reported are 3,247,610 patients recovered—80 percent of the total infected. Another 669,414 people are still receiving medical care and are considered cases being monitored.
