The moving average of new deaths due to COVID-19 calculated in seven days rose from 483.57 on Sunday (Nov. 22) to 521.43 on Saturday (29). The figures come from indicator Monitora COVID-19, of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz). The difference is higher than it was for the previous 30 days: On October 29, the average stood at 438.43.

The moving average is an indicator seen as key in evaluating pandemic trends with less interference from daily fluctuations. The number of deaths registered in the last 24 hours is added to those reported in seven days prior. The result is then divided by seven.

The moving average of new cases is also reported to have increased—from 29,758.29 on November 22 to 34,762.71 on Saturday.

São Paulo and Rio de Janeio

The moving average of new deaths in seven days (November 22 through 29) in São Paulo state grew from 100.43 to 115.57; its case counterpart slid from 5,849.71 to 4,412.14.

In Rio de Janeiro, in turn, the moving average of new deaths dropped from 97.14 on November 22 to 83.86, and that of new cases surged from 1,606.71 to 1,159.
