COVID-19: Brazil’s total case tally reaches 6.72 mi

Approximately 87.7 percent of patients have recovered from the disease

According to Brazil’s Health Ministry, the number of patients recovered from COVID-19 has reached 5,901,511—87.7 percent of the total infected.

The amount of cases of COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic now stands at 6,728,452. In 24 hours, health authorities reported 54,453 new positive diagnoses. The figure brings the curve back to August levels.

Fatalities caused by the pandemic have totaled 178,995. In 24 hours, 836 new deaths were registered. There are also 2,262 passings under investigation.

The figures can be found in the daily update published by the Health Ministry on Wednesday evening (Dec. 9). The report combines data sent in by state health secretariats countrywide.

Also reported were 647,946 patients being monitored, and 5,901,511 people who have recovered from the disease.

States

The list with states with the highest death toll for COVID-19 is led by São Paulo (43,461), Rio de Janeiro (23,430), Minas Gerais (10,429), Ceará (9,762), and Pernambuco (9.200).

Those with the lowest death counts are Acre (742), Roraima (745), Amapá (839), Tocantins (1,190), and Rondônia (1,617).
