Number of infected with COVID-19 in Brazil adds up to 8.32 million

In 24 hours, 67.75 thousand new cases were reported

The number of people infected with the novel coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic in Brazil has reached 8,324,294. In 24 hours, health authorities reported 67,758 new positive diagnoses for COVID-19—the year’s second highest mark, outweighed only by the 87,843 confirmed on January 7.

The figures can be found in the daily update published by the country’s Ministry of Health on Thursday evening (Jan. 14). The document combines data on cases and deaths collected and submitted by state health secretariats.

The total amount of lives claimed by the pandemic escalated to 207,095, after the new 1,131 deaths were added from Wednesday to Thursday. This is the third consecutive day with new fatalities above 1,100. There are also 2,694 deaths being investigated to ascertain whether or not they are linked to COVID-19.

There are 777,496 people with active cases of the disease being monitored by health agents, and 7,339,703 patients have recovered from the disease.

States

Atop the list of Brazilian states with the highest death toll stands São Paulo (49,289), followed by Rio de Janeiro (27,441), Minas Gerais (13,028), Ceará (10,209), and Pernambuco (9,946).

The states with the lowest death counts are Roraima (800), Acre (832), Amapá (991), Tocantins (1,294), and Rondônia (1,976).
