COVID-19: Brazil reports 1,386 deaths in 24 hours

The total death toll since the beginning of the pandemic is 248,529

The latest epidemiological report on the novel coronavirus, released Tuesday (Feb. 23) by Brazil’s Ministry of Health, brings another 62,715 cases of COVID-19. According to the document, 1,386 people have died from the disease in 24 hours. The total number of fatalities in the country has reached 248,529 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The disease’s recovery rate holds steady at 89.8 percent and represents 9,215,164 people. Another 794,182 patients (7.7%) are still being monitored by health agents.

With no major changes, the state ranking has São Paulo as the epicenter of COVID-19 in Brazil. The state has a case tally of 1,990,554 cases altogether, with 59,199 deaths, 23.41 percent of the total of fatalities in the country. Minas Gerais and Bahia are still second and third, with 847,763 cases and 17,774 deaths, and 660,506 cases and 11,320 people killed, respectively.
