Deaths from COVID-19 in Brazil surpass 300 thousand

São Paulo has the highest death toll: 68,904

Brazil reached the milestone of 300 thousand deaths from COVID-19 on Wednesday (Mar. 24), two months and a half after hitting the 200 thousand death mark, on January 7, 2021.

With 2,009 fatalities in the last 24 hours, the total amount of lives lost to COVID-19 adds up to 300,685. There are also 3,446 fatalities under investigation by health teams.

Cases registered in the last 24 hours totaled 89,992, bringing the amount of people infected with the disease since the beginning of the pandemic to 12,220,011.

The data were released by the Health Ministry in its daily report, published Wednesday evening. The update combines figures from state and local health authorities on cases and deaths caused by COVID-19.

The number of patients recovered now stands at 10,689,646. Those with an active case of the disease, being monitored by health agents, add up to 1,229,680.

States

The list of Brazilian states with the highest COVID-19 death tallies is headed by São Paulo, with 68,904. Next come Rio de Janeiro (35,373), Minas Gerais (22,497), Rio Grande do Sul (17,748), and Paraná (14,454).
