Brazil reports over 13 mi cases of COVID-19

Brazil has surpassed 13 million cases of COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic. With 28,645 new positive diagnoses confirmed by health authorities in Monday’s report (Apr. 5), the country totals 13,013,601.

The number of lives lost to the new coronavirus reached 332,752. In 24 hours, 1,319 fatalities were notified.

There are also 3,425 deaths under investigation by health teams, as in some cases the cause of death is issued after the patient dies.

The number of people recovered rose to 11,436,189. Those with an active case of the disease, being monitored by health teams, add up to 1,244,660.

Data are usually lower on Sundays and Mondays due to fewer workers registering infections and deaths. On Tuesday, they tend to go higher, as uncounted occurrences from previous days are finally computed.

States

The list of Brazilian states with the highest death tolls for COVID-19 is headed by São Paulo (77,165), followed by Rio de Janeiro (37,693), Minas Gerais (25,713), Rio Grande do Sul (20,600), and Paraná (17,405).

Those with the lowest amount of fatalities are Acre (1,298), Amapá (1,334), Roraima (1,352), Tocantins (2,113), and Sergipe (3,617).

Vaccination

By Monday evening, 42.9 million vaccine doses had been distributed. Of those, 21.7 million were applied—16.9 million as the first dose, 4.7 million as the second.
