Brazil: 2,966 deaths, 77.3 thousand new cases of COVID-19 in 24h

The country’s total death toll now stands at 411,588

In 24 hours, Brazil reported 2,966 deaths from complications resulting from COVID-19. In the same period, 77,359 new cases of the disease were confirmed. The data were released as part of the Health Ministry’s daily update Tuesday evening (May 4).

The new figures bring the country’s total death toll to 411,588. There are also 3,651 fatalities under investigation.

Brazil’s case load now stands at 14,856,888. There are also 1,002,304 people infected and with an active case of contamination with the novel coronavirus being monitored by health agents.

Also according to the Ministry of Health, Brazil has 13,442,96 people who recovered from COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic. This represents 90.5 percent of the total of people infected with the virus.

States

The Brazilian state with the highest number of deaths is São Paulo (98,012). Next come Rio de Janeiro (44,232), Minas Gerais (34,396), Rio Grande do Sul (25,417) and Paraná (22,991). The lowest death tolls are seen in the states of Roraima (1,514), Acre (1,555), Amapá (1,566), Tocantins (2,601), and Alagoas (4,293).

Vaccination

According to the ministry, 71,3 million vaccine doses against COVID-19 have been distributed to states and municipalities. Of these, 44.4 million doses have been applied—30.1 million of which as the first dose, 14.2 million as the second.
