Brazil reports 73.4 thousand cases, 2.8 thousand deaths in 24h
The country’s total case tally nears 15 million

Brazil’s COVID-19 death toll has reached 414,399, after 2,811 fatalities were registered between Tuesday and Wednesday this week, as per the update released by the country’s Ministry of Health.
In 24 hours, 73,295 new cases of the disease were reported, raising the nation’s case count to 14,930,183. Of these, 13,529,572 people have recovered from COVID-19.
The ranking of states with the highest number of deaths from COVID-19 is headed by São Paulo (98,710), followed by Rio de Janeiro (45,581) and Minas Gerais (34,837). Those with the least fatalities are Roraima (1,529), Acre (1,563), and Amapá (1,570).
As for confirmed cases, São Paulo also ranks first, with 2.9 million. Next come Minas Gerais, with 1.3 million, and Rio Grande do Sul, with 992.4 thousand cases. The Brazilian state with the lowest number of COVID-19 cases is Acre, with 78.6 thousand, followed by Roraima (97.2 thousand) and Amapá (106.9 thousand).
The figures can be found in the daily update on new cases and deaths, published Wednesday (May 5) by the Health Ministry, with combined information from state health secretariats.
