COVID-19: Brazil’s case tally totals 18.4 mi, death toll 513.4k
The report released Sunday (Jun. 27) by Brazil’s Health Ministry shows 33,704 new positive diagnoses for COVID-19 in 24 hours. This figure brings up the total number of people infected with the disease since the beginning of the pandemic to 18,420,598.
The deaths caused by the novel coronavirus during the pandemic are approaching 515 thousand. In 24 hours, health authorities notified 739 new fatalities, adding up to 513,474. On Saturday, the dashboard read 512,735 deaths overall.
The data also indicate 1,293,132 patients being monitored and 16,613,992 people recovered from the disease.
COVID-19 across the states
The Brazilian states with the highest amount of deaths from the disease are São Paulo (126,050), Rio de Janeiro (55,181), Minas Gerais (45,888), Rio Grande do Sul (31,117), and Paraná (30,445).
Those with the lowest death counts are Roraima (1,731), Acre (1,736), Amapá (1,824), Tocantins (3,179), and Alagoas (5,281).
Vaccination
The ministry further reported that Brazil has distributed 129.7 million vaccine doses to the states. Of these, 96,7 million have been administered—71.1 million as the first dose, and 25.5 million as the second or single-dose shot (in the case of the Janssen vaccine).
